Maharashtra Nature Park
About
Maharashtra Nature Park
Maharashtra Nature Park (MNP) in Dharavi, Mumbai is a remarkable 37-acre urban forest oasis, transformed from a former garbage landfill into a thriving green lung. Developed in the 1990s by the Maharashtra Nature Park Society (with MMRDA support), it showcases Mumbai’s incredible ability to reclaim and restore nature right in the heart of the city, near the Mithi River.
What makes it special
This dense mini-forest is home to over 580 plant species, 123+ bird species (including migratory ones), 85+ butterflies, reptiles, insects, and small mammals. Winding trails, a central pond, and shaded paths create a peaceful escape ideal for birdwatching, nature walks, and quiet reflection. It feels surprisingly wild and serene despite being surrounded by urban Dharavi and close to Bandra-Kurla Complex.
